Today was the last day of school for the Little Miss. For her, confirmation that summer has officially begun. For me confirmation that my Little Miss won’t be little for long. This morning our former 1st grader skipped to the car anxious to go to school knowing today was party day for room 9 – time to celebrate the end of the school year over juice boxes, pizza and cake. Adding to the anticipation was the realization that for several weeks her evening routine would now consist of homework free nights, staying up late, and longer bedtime stories.

We are all excited to see what summer 2011 will entail for our family of 3 (four including our Stella) especially our growing little ray of sunshine! Even so, there is already talk of a new backpack, new lunch box and new school supplies (shopping for school supplies – one of my fondest back to school memories).
The other night the three of us sat in bed looking at our Little Miss’ school year book. We turned the pages looking for pictures of our 1st grader, soon to be 2nd grader, smiling and excitedly pointing each time we spotted one. I still can’t believe how fast the school year came and went.
Reflecting back on my last days of school it was a chance to sign year books, say goodbyes, party (grade school style) and my favorite – open my earthquake kit and eat all the goodies purchased at the beginning of the school year. Who knew end of the year fruit snacks and other nonperishables would taste so divine.
What about you? What are your fondest memories from the last day of school?
