Here’s what I’m reading:

{This is me this weekend before heading off to our Relay for Life team fundraiser}
I put down an amazing book just so I could read A Place of Yes by Bethenny Frankel (equally amazing) with my mommy crew. Sidenote -I have yet to master reading more than one book at a time except for my college days when every class had at the very least one required text book - end of side note. After having had not one but 2 of my girlfriends swear by it’s amazingness, this past Friday I headed to Borders to use my 40% off coupon and get my very own copy so I could join in on the fun. Shout out to my friend Connie for telling me that I must read this book. And then telling me again a week later. Also to my friend Maria for telling me to read the book. And then telling me to make sure I read it once she learned I already purchased it.
Not since the bible have I been hooked on a book. Ok. That’s not entirely true. I have had my share of good reads. Especially those for the 10 and under crowd as one of my most beloved pastimes are bedtime stories with the Little Miss age 6 and counting. Here’s an excerpt from Bethenny’s book:
“My parents make me crazy. I’ll be stuck in this job for the rest of my life. I can’t stop spending money. I’ll never find the perfect guy so I might as well just settle. I don’t care if I end up single, I’d rather be alone. Why do I get so irritated at my husband? I can’t stop eating. I’ll never get in shape, so why bother? I don’t spend enough time with my kids, am I a bad mother? Why can’t I get organized? I can’t sleep. I have no self-control. Did I sell out? My life is not what I once thought it could be. Maybe I should just accept that I can’t have it all.”
Oh dear Bethenny you had me at this paragraph which just so happens to be on page 1. This profound paragraph was then followed by a profound question “Does any of this sound familiar?” Ummm…HECK YEAH it does!!! Have you ever heard someone use the term “reading my mail”? My darlings I felt like Bethenny was reading my mail. She knew what was going on inside that head of mine. I felt like she was talking directly to me.
I am not a big fan of the self-help book but I am a fan of the “good book”. And occasionally I stumble upon (or am told about) other “good” books and this for sure is one. No scratch that. So far it’s been better than good. It’s been great. (I bet I sound like a hype man don’t I?)
Several of my mommy friends and I are feeling inspired and are so ready to come from A Place of Yes. How about you? We’d be happy to have you join us. Well, what is a “place of yes”? You might ask. For that my friends I will direct you to your nearest Borders or Barnes & Nobles. If you’ve got an iPad or if you go to Amazon.com you won’t even have to leave the comforts of your humble abodes to get your hands on this read but based on page 1 alone I definitely think it’s worth forgoing a few extra hours of shut-eye so that you might one day be able to come from A Place of Yes (my wish for me and for you).
So that my friends is what I’m reading? How about you? What’s your most recent page turner? I’d love to know and if you don’t have one yet I’ve certainly got a suggestion (and no I’m not getting paid to say this).
Time for me to curl up and get my read on. Page 2….
joking.
Goodnight lovelies. xo.

I’ve been thinking of reading this! The only negative thing I’ve heard about it is that the book seems like its been structured first, filled in later. Did you get that sense?
So far, for me, it has been a great read. I get what you are saying about it being structured at first but I think its helpful as it allows readers to really understand what she means by the term “A Place of Yes” as well as helping us to understand what we can expect to get (and not get) out of the book. You should visit the book store and browse a few pages and see what you think! If you end up deciding to read it let me know :)
