{His and Hers} Closet

Litterally…His closet and Her closet.  With the exception of our amazing living room which was designed by Emily Henderson (yes you read that right! Emily Henderson of HGTV’s Secrets From A Stylist was in the hizouse)  the rest of our house continues to be a work in progress.  Having an older home and limited funds means we spend a lot of  money on necessities as opposed to those things that are not so necessary but nice to have.  An example of this would be the fact that rather than buying a headboard to go with our comfy mattress or chairs for our guests and us to sit on we had plumbing done for the washer and borrowed folding chairs from Chris’s grandmother (thanks to Emily and her crew we won’t be needing those chairs until our next big bash).  And even a year after we set up shop in our first place there is still much to be done.  The tile is apparently repulsed by the floor as it is trying to pull itself away from it and it seems like the paint doesn’t like the house all that much and is starting to do the same thing and before I digress any further (I could go on and on) I will get back to the inspiration behind this post - the closet.

Our bedroom happens to have one long closet with two doors.  We had this vision of knocking out the wall in the middle to open things up but it wasn’t in the budget so we decided to make the most of it and enjoy the fact that  we both have our own closet or so it appears.  And so without further ado I give you His and Hers closets – actually Hers and His since I wanted the closet by the window but you get the picture:

I’m not a photographer so please don’t judge me.  And I tried to use my favorite photo app but I couldn’t get the closet doors to fit in the little view opening.  I’m hoping to one day get a fancy camera so I can moonlight as a photographer. Until then or atleast until I find that Sony I gave the boot for my hipstamatic app expect photos via my iphone.

And so no one gets confused as to whose closet is whose we  labeled them with these anthropologie zinc letters.   At $18 dollars per letter it kind of feels like a splurge BUT I got a birthday discount per letter courtesy of my favorite store.  And did I mention that we actually both like them.  Well technically, I love them and the Mr. likes them so we both win!

Our bedroom is a work in progress but we figured our letters would be a great start on our otherwise very blank plaster canvas.  As for all that wall space between the closet doors.  I’m picturing a rustic desk or a tufted bench.  We’d also love to find some art we could both agree on.

Now that Emily is gone we are on our own but at least we now know that it is possible to blend our two styles together. Now the task at hand is to figure out if we can do it – together.  No more solo projects in this house.   I mean if the Mr. decides he wants to leave it up to me I’m ok with that.  Really.  So forget what I said about solo projects. Ok?

Anybody else out there have a Mr. who actually wants to help make executive decisions when it comes to the home decor? Anybody?
