FAIL.
Well not entirely. So what did I do with that box of Betty Crocker cake mix? I made these puppies -

They are cake balls, Red Velvet ones. And oh my goodness were they yummy, or so I have been told. I made about 2 dozen of them and I must say these two were the prettiest of the bunch. The entire process was fairly simple up until it was time to do some dipping – make the cake, mix in 1 container of icing, roll the cake into balls, stick them in the fridge for a bit and finally dip them into melted chocolate. Bakerella, who I believe to be the Queen of cake pops, has the recipe on her website as well as recipes for tons of other tasty treats.
After dipping several in the melted chocolate things got a little messy and of course my tummy got a little achy. I kept eating and eating, cleaning the bowls and spoons with my fingers, eating melted chocolate and crumpled cake balls. By the time I was done preparing these tiny bites of bliss I couldn’t consume more than one bite.

Next time around I plan to do less sampling of the ingredients so that I might enjoy the final product more. For some reason I lack self-control when it comes to sweets. I am the person who must lick the cake batter off the spoon and will eat cookie dough just because it tastes so good. I’ve heard it’s “dangerous” to do these two things but occasionally I walk on the wild side…Ok back to the cake balls. I also have a couple of ideas of things I can try in hopes to get at least a dozen pretties out of the batch next round. For now; however, my claim to fame shall be strictly the taste. Sure presentation is important but in my house taste rules and everyone gets an A for effort.
